The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi men's tennis team held onto the No. 62 spot in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) rankings on Tuesday afternoon when the latest polls were released.
The No. 55-65 grouping of teams that the Islanders fall in features several big name schools from the collegiate ranks. North Carolina State sits at No.55, followed by BYU at No. 56, Oklahoma State at No. 57, New Mexico State at No. 58, No. 59 Arkansas, No. 60 UC Santa Barbara, No. 61 New Mexico. Texas A&M - Corpus Christi is ranked ahead of No. 63 Maryland, No. 64 DePaul and No. 65 Santa Clara.
The Islanders are one of the top Division I-AAA schools in the nation, which is defined by a Division I school that does not sponsor the sport of football. Pepperdine is the top-ranked DI-AAA school in the nation at No. 20 in the nation.
Texas A&M - Corpus Christi is now 3-4 on the year following a 5-2 win over Louisiana-Lafayette on Sunday. After losing the doubles point, the team came back strong by winning five-of-six singles matches against the Ragin' Cajuns at the Corpus Christi Country Club.
Next up for the Islanders is a doubleheader on Thursday against Prairie View A&M. They will meet the Panthers in at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. while the women's teams will play each other in a single match at 3 p.m. in Houston.
