The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's and women's tennis teams will be back in action on Thursday afternoon with both teams facing the Prairie View A&M Panthers. The men will start at 10 AM with the women starting at 2 PM in the afternoon.
The women are coming off of a 6-1 loss to Rice in their season-opening match against the Owls last week. Freshman Doris Kuselj picked up the only point for the Islanders against a team that is consistently strong in the collegiate tennis world. Along with the men's team, the women are a young team with three freshmen, one sophomore, two juniors and lone senior Megan Harless.
The men bring three freshmen to the table as well, to go along with three sophomores, two juniors and a single senior in Dmitry Novikov. They are redshirting Laurent Montoisy, a junior who is their top singles player, and having freshman Gergo Weindinger sit out the season.
They will be coming off a pair of matches against tough competition in New Mexico, having faced New Mexico on Saturday and New Mexico State on Sunday. The Islanders fell 7-1 in the first match and 5-1 in the second as sophomore transfer Nathan Robinson won his first match as an Islander.
Following the single match on Thursday, the men will travel to Waco for the ITA National Indoor running this Saturday and Sunday on the campus of Baylor. The women will be off until Feb. 4 when they travel to El Paso where they will play three matches in three days. Next Thursday they will play UTEP, follow that up with a match against Illinois State on Friday and finish the trip against Arkansas State on Saturday.
