College Station – The #56 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's tennis team will begin NCAA play on Friday, May 8 at 1:00 PM against #24 Arizona at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center on the campus of Texas A&M.

The Islanders come into the match with a season record of 14-8 after going undefeated in Southland Conference play this season and sweeping through the SLC Tournament two weeks ago in Corpus Christi. The Arizona Wildcats finished the year with a record of 17-5 overall and went 2-4 in the Pacific 10 Conference.

The Islanders beat several ranked teams this season, with the list including Indiana, Nebraska, Middle Tennessee, New Mexico and DePaul. The Wildcats will be the third-highest ranked team the Islanders have faced this season, behind only #6 Baylor and #12 Texas.

This is the second straight NCAA appearance for the Islanders under Director of Tennis Steve Moore. Arizona is making its first tournament appearance under fourth-year head coach Tad Berkowitz. Moore and Berkowitz were the last two assistants at the school hosting the regional, Texas A&M, before moving to their respective schools.

The last meeting between the Islanders and Wildcats came last season, with Arizona taking a 6-2 victory in a match that had several individual matches go three sets and with the Islanders losing the doubles point in a tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles. The Islanders will look to win those close battles on Friday as they are looking for the program's first NCAA Tournament victory.

If the Islanders win their first round match, they will play on Saturday at 4:00 PM against the winner of the Texas A&M vs. Binghamton match. The winner of that match will play in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tennis Tournament one week later in College Station, as the school is the host site of the tournament championship rounds this season.
