CORPUS CHRISTI – Incoming freshman Ihab Amin (Alexandria, Egypt/St. John's Military Academy) has been selected to take part in the Nike Global Challenge as part of the Pan African team. Amin is the first Egyptian ever to be selected to participate in the event.
The event will start on Wednesday, Aug. 13, and run through Saturday, Aug. 16, at Chicago's Whitney Young High School. International teams taking part in the event will be Brazil, Canada, China and Pan Africa, with four USA Teams comprised of the top 40 national high school players rounding out the event.
Pan Africa will be in Pool B along with China, USA East and USA South. The teams will engage in round-robin competition, with Amin and his teammates slated to play their first game on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. against USA South. The Pan African squad will play two games on Friday – at noon against USA East and at 6 p.m. against China – to wrap up round-robin play. On Saturday, teams from Pool B will face off with squads from Pool A.
The eight-team, 16-game tournament features the top high school and Under-19 basketball players from the best international teams in the world and is played under FIBA rules, just like the Olympics. For the US Participants, the Nike Global Challenge will showcase the top players selected from across the country based on the four regular-season sessions of this year's Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL).
