Top Moment #6: Men's Basketball Beats ORU in Overtime

There was no love lost between the Texas A&M - Corpus Christi men's basketball team and Oral Roberts over Valentine's Day weekend. In a battle of top teams in the Southland, the two teams engaged in a slugfest that carried into overtime. John Jordan scored or assisted on 25 of the Islanders' final 26 points, and it was Brandon Pye's three in the extra session that gave A&M-Corpus Christi control of the game en route to a 74-72 win.

The first half featured five ties and six lead changes. Rashawn Thomas scored eight points and Jeff Beverly chipped in six and three rebounds to send the Islanders into the locker room down 25-31.

In the second half, the Islanders and Golden Eagles went neck-and-neck until midway through the second half when ORU took a 53-48 lead. The Islanders, however, clawed their way back on a 6-0 run to push ahead 54-53. From there, each team was able to answer each other's punches until Shawn Glover hit a pair of free throws with 34.8 seconds remaining to give the visiting team a 63-61 lead. Once again, Jordan came through for the Islanders with 16.7 on the clock, draining a jumper from just outside the key to force the game into overtime.

In the extra session, the Islanders were able to build a 74-70 lead with 18.5 seconds, before ORU's Brandon Conley pulled his team within two with a tip-in with 10.2 seconds remaining. Things got even more interesting with 9.0 on the clock. After an inbound pass was deflected off Hameed Ali's body, the Golden Eagles gave the ball to Glover, but his jumper went off the back rim and Zane Knowles was able to tip the rebound toward midcourt as time expired to cap the victory for the Islanders.
