Top Performance #8: Jordan's Buzzer Beater Sends Islanders Past IPFW

It was an even matchup between the Texas A&M - Corpus Christi men's basketball team and IPFW as they both entered the Holiday Inn Downtown Marina Islanders Basketball Tournament with a 1-1 record. In a game that featured 12 ties and 23 lead changes, the game came down to the final 4.2 seconds.

First Team All-Southland Conference pick John Jordan and a favorite for Southland Conference Player of the Year, carried his team with a career-high 28 points and clinched a jumper to lift the Islanders to a 72-71 victory. There were many contributing performances, including veterans Hameed Ali with 13 points and Joy Williamson with 12 to go along with eight rebounds, but it was Jordan's heroic shot that led the team to victory.

The Islanders and Mastodons went back-and-forth in the first half until Williamson hit a three-point play with nine seconds left to give the home squad a 33-32 lead going into the locker room. The second half was similar to the first as both teams battled for the lead. The Mastadons were ahead 71-70 and had a chance to run down the clock in the closing seconds. Ali, however, made an outstanding play to create a turnover with less than 15 seconds remaining. From there, the Islanders put the ball into their leading scorer's hands.

Jordan carried the ball down the court and was met by a challenging IPFW defense. The Houston native moved from the top of the key to the left side trying to fight off the defenders before nailing the buzzer beater jumper to clinch the victory for the Islanders.
