CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi basketball teams will host their annual Islanders Invasion, presented by Domino's Pizza, on Thursday, Oct. 24, starting at 7 p.m. The annual introduction of both teams will be held on campus at the Dugan Wellness Center and is free for all to attend.
"Islanders Invasion is always one of the most anticipated events of the year," men's basketball coach Willis Wilson said. "It's an event that's geared toward our fans, but it's probably our players' favorite event of the year too. They're excited to show their fellow Islanders what kind of team they'll be supporting this year."
"We're looking forward to introducing our players to the Islanders faithful," women's head coach Royce Chadwick said. "With so many new faces, it's a great chance for our fans to get to know us. Last year's event was a lot of fun and I think this year will be even better."
Islanders Invasion will feature numerous giveaways, with the first 1,000 fans getting a glow-in-the-dark necklace. Blue Crew members will also have the opportunity to pick up their official shirts starting at 6:30, when doors will open to the event.
Students at the Island University can also take part in several contests. Selected students will be able to win prizes such as gift cards, t-shirts and even $200 cash. Additionally, one lucky student will be selected to be a judge for the slam-dunk contest. Interested students should post a video on twitter and tag @Go_Islanders with the hashtag #SlamDunkJudge.
Islanders Invasion will feature the introduction of the teams, a three-point contest and the always entertaining slam-dunk contest, where junior John Jordan will look to three-peat. Both the men's and women's teams will be available for photos and autographs following the event.
