CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team opened its 2013 preseason with the first official practice on Friday, Sept. 27. The team will tip off its 2013-14 season on Nov. 8 with a contest against Huston-Tillotson.
The NCAA Legislative Council approved a new start date, nearly two weeks earlier than in previous seasons. Under the new system, teams have six weeks in which to complete their 30 preseason practices.
The Islanders are also ahead of most other schools because of the additional 10 days of practice they had leading up to their summer tour of Italy. While abroad, the Islanders were also able to suit up together for four games, going 3-1 against Italian professional teams.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is slated to play 17 games in the Coastal Bend this year, the most in program history. Among the highlighted home games are a tilt with Rice at the American Bank Center and the Holiday Inn Downtown Marina Islanders Basketball Tournament, which will see the Islanders play host to IPFW, Tennessee Tech and Texas-Pan American in addition to the opener with Huston-Tillotson.
