Men's Basketball to Host 17 Games in 2013-14

CORPUS CHRISTI The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team will play 17 home games as part of its 2013-14 schedule, including the Holiday Inn Downtown Marina Islanders Classic. The Islanders will play four games against NCAA Tournament teams as part of their 31-game schedule.

"We're really excited to be playing so many games here in Corpus Christi to give our fans 17 nights they can come out and see Division I basketball here in the Coastal Bend," head coach Willis Wilson said. "I think this is a schedule that we can build on and make some strides this season.

"I also want to thank the Holiday Inn Downtown Marina for stepping up as our title sponsor for the Islanders Classic," he added. "We hope that this will be the start of a great partnership between their property and Islanders Athletics."

The season starts with the Holiday Inn Downtown Marina Islanders Classic scheduled to take place from Nov. 8-17. As part of the event, Huston-Tillotson will play the Islanders (at the Dugan Wellness Center) and Texas-Pan American (in Edinburg) in the opening round, while Tennessee Tech and Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne will take on Indiana University-Kokomo. UTPA, IPFW and TTU will then come to the Coastal Bend for the final three games against the Islanders at the American Bank Center, Nov. 15-17.

Between the opening round and the final three games of the Classic, the Islanders will head to Ames, Iowa, for a matchup with Iowa State on Nov. 12. Following the three games of the Islanders Classic at the American Bank Center, A&M-Corpus Christi will conclude its homestand with a matchup against Rice downtown on Nov. 20.

The Islanders will play three of their next four games on the road, with contests at UTSA, Houston and Oklahoma played between Nov. 23 and Dec. 5. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi also plays host to Central Michigan on Nov. 26 at the American Bank Center.

UT-Permian Basin and Cal State Northridge will both visit the Coastal Bend in December, with UTPB visiting the American Bank Center on Dec. 8. After breaking for finals, the Islanders will return to action on campus at the Dugan Wellness Center, when Northridge visits Corpus Christi on Dec. 20. A&M-Corpus Christi will close out 2013 with a trip to face Big Ten foe Minnesota on Dec. 28.

The 2014 calendar year will see the advent of Southland Conference play, with games at Central Arkansas and Oral Roberts on Jan. 2 and 4. The Islanders will then welcome the top two teams from the league a year ago, as Northwestern State and Stephen F. Austin visit the American Bank Center.

Following contests at McNeese State and Nicholls, the Islanders are back on campus, as Southeastern Louisiana comes to the Dugan Wellness Center on Jan. 23. A&M-Corpus Christi will follow that with new conference foe New Orleans visiting the American Bank Center on Jan. 25. The Islanders will then embark on a four-game road trip, with contests at Sam Houston State, Lamar, Incarnate Word and Abilene Christian.

A&M-Corpus Christi will close the regular season with five of its final six games at the American Bank Center. Central Arkansas (Feb. 13) and Oral Roberts (Feb. 15) visit the Coastal Bend on Valentine's Day weekend, followed by the Islanders' final road game, at Houston Baptist on Feb. 22.

Homecoming will see HBU come to the American Bank Center the following week for a contest on Saturday, March 1. The Islanders will then close out the regular season with games against McNeese State (March 6) and Nicholls (March 8) in downtown Corpus Christi. The Nicholls contest will be Senior Night, as the Islanders honor their players participating in their final home contest.

The 2014 Southland Conference Tournament will be held once again at the Merrill Center in Katy, Texas, with the top eight finishers in the league advancing to the event. ACU and UIW will not be eligible to make the conference tournament, with the remaining 12 teams vying for the eight spots.
