Men's Basketball Wraps Successful Camp Season

CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball team wrapped up a successful camp season with its full-capacity High Potential Camp the weekend of Aug. 3-4. Nearly 150 high school age players took part in the event, which is geared toward skill instruction for those high school players looking to advance to play college basketball.

"It was a very solid camp season, and to cap it off with the High Potential Camp being such a huge success was outstanding," Head Coach Willis Wilson said. "We had a great group of basketball players in here this weekend and they were eager and willing to learn from a fantastic group of coaches.

"I'd be remiss if I didn't send a special thank you to [Assistant to the Head Coach] Collin Authier," Wilson added. "He does so much behind the scenes for our program. He did an amazing job of running our camps all summer and none of this success would have been possible without his hard work."

High school players from eight different states and as far away as California and Pennsylvania visited the Coastal Bend to participate in the camp, which took campers through college-intensity workouts, advanced skill instructions and a number of games against their peers. The camp was open to any and all players entering grades 10-12.

"I think the players who took part in our High Potential Camp really got a lot out of it," Authier said. "I can't thank the coaches and counselors who helped run the camp enough, they are what made it such a success. Also, a big thank you to Atomic Omelette and Howard's Farmhouse BBQ & Catering for providing some of the food for the campers this weekend."

The High Potential Camp was the final camp of the summer for Islanders Men's Basketball, which saw nearly 500 campers visit the Island University to work on their skills. The team also hosted single-day shooting and skills camps along with two sessions of its week-long Day Camp. For information on the 2014 camps, visit
