Islanders Basketball Inks Rashawn Thomas to NLI

CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men's basketball team has signed forward Rashawn Thomas (Oklahoma City, Okla./Southeast) to a National Letter of Intent, head coach Willis Wilson announced today. Thomas is a 6-foot-7 forward who was nominated for McDonald's All-America consideration.

"Rashawn was a bit of a late bloomer, but his skill and athleticism are outstanding," Wilson said. "He has the strength to go inside, but his ball handling gives him the ability to play outside as well – he played all five positions in high school. Coupled with [fall signee] Jeff Beverly, we have two really good young guys with size joining the Islanders Basketball family for next year."

Thomas averaged 22.3 points and 15.7 rebounds for Southeast this year to go along with 4.2 assists. He was named First Team Big All-City by the Oklahoman, and won the news outlet's fan vote as the city's Player of the Year. He led Southeast to the state tournament for the first time since 2008.

Thomas' finest game came against Northwest Classen, when he poured in 41 points. That week he averaged 25.8 points in four victories en route to being named the Oklahoman's Boys Basketball Player of the Week. He is ranked as the 16th-best prospect in the state of Oklahoma according to MaxPreps.

Thomas joins the 6-foot-6 Beverly (Houston/Clear Springs) as members of the Islanders' incoming class for the 2013-14 season. Beverly signed with A&M – Corpus Christi during the November early signing period.
