CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men's basketball team will face Cal State Fullerton as a result of the 2013 Ramada Worldwide BracketBusters matchups, it was announced today. The Islanders and Titans will do battle at the Dugan Wellness Center on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 1 p.m.
It will mark the second meeting all-time between the two squads, as A&M – Corpus Christi knocked off Cal State Fullerton in the season opener in 2002-03, 83-76. That game was a neutral site contest that was part of the Hawaiian Airlines Tipoff Classic.
This year's contest will also be a reunion of sorts for Islanders assistant coach Yaphett King. King played two years at Fullerton, leading the Titans to the Round of 16 in the National Invitation Tournament in 2005.
Last year, the Islanders knocked off Central Michigan in the Bracketbusters in Mount Pleasant, Mich., 49-47. That contest was the only other time the Islanders took part in the Bracketbusters, which is in its 11th and final year of existence.
The Islanders will play a return game to Fullerton in either the 2013-14 or 2014-15 seasons as part of the Bracketbusters agreement. In return for last year's Bracketbusters, the Islanders will host Central Michigan next season.
This week, the Islanders will take part in a pair of contests for Homecoming week, as they face Lamar and McNeese State on Stripes Court at the American Bank Center. Thursday's game will tip off at approximately 7:30 p.m., and will be the annual pink game, as fans wearing pink will get $5 off the price of admission. Saturday's Homecoming game takes place at 7 p.m. as the Islanders conclude the week's festivities with a matchup against the Cowboys.
