CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men's basketball team will take part in the inaugural Boys Manning Up event this Saturday, Sept. 15, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Solomon Coles Recreational Center. The Islanders were invited to be guests at the event, which aims to keep local young men on the right path in their lives.
"This is a really meaningful event for our team," head coach Willis Wilson said. "We pride ourselves in our players being positive role models for this community, and to do so for the next generation of young men is outstanding. A number of our players had positive role models that changed their lives for the better, and we hope we can have an impact on some of these young men as well."
This is the first year of the Boys Manning Up event, as it was launched after a successful similar event for girls in October 2011. Presented by the Corpus Christi Department of Parks and Recreation, nearly 75 youths attended the 2011 event.
