CORPUS CHRISTI - With fall classes underway, the Texas A&M - Corpus Christi men's basketball staff is finally able to get its first work in with its group of nine newcomers.
NCAA rules limit the coaches to two hours of on-court activity per week with each player, so the Islanders split into three groups, two of which worked for an hour on Thursday. The groups will each have two sessions per week until the team is allowed to begin full squad workouts.
"It's exciting to get into the gym with our players after months of anticipation," head coach Willis Wilson said. "We're limited in the amount of time we can spend with the guys, but I assure you we'll make the most of it."
The Islanders open their 2011-12 season on Friday, Nov. 11, at Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla. The following Monday will be the home opener, against Denver, in the American Bank Center. Texas A&M - Corpus Christi plays host to 12 home games this season, including non-conference matchups with Utah State, Texas Tech and South Alabama.
