CORPUS CHRISTI – Jerred Kite (San Antonio/Antonian Prep) is the latest addition to the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men's basketball team for the 2012-13 season, it was announced today. Kite is enrolled in summer classes at the university and has begun participating with the team.
"Jerred is a young man with a great attitude and strong character," Head Coach Willis Wilson said. "It's going to take time for him to adjust physically to the college game, but he is a guy who will be a contributor for us down the line. There's a saying that you can't teach height, and he has plenty of that."
The 6-foot-10 forward played for the Apaches at Antonian College Preparatory High School under Head Coach Charlie Boggess, earning four varsity letters at the school. In his senior year, he averaged 11 points, 9.9 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 2.0 assists per game. He posted his best game against Austin St. Michael's, delivering a triple-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds and 10 blocks.
During his career at Antonian, he was named Newcomer of the Yearin TAPPS 2-5A (2009), Second Team All-District (2009-2011) and First Team All-District (2012). He helped the Apaches to the state finals in 2010 and 2012 and was named to the Academic Honor Roll three times (2009-2011).
The son of Raymond and Laurie Kite was born on Sept. 27, 1993, and has a younger brother, Jorden. He plans to major in Pre-Med Biology and is looking toward a future career as an orthodontist.
