CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men's basketball team kicked off its first of two weeks of extended camps today at Moody Fieldhouse with a strong turnout. The Islanders opened their Day Camp on the Island Monday morning and 4-on-4 Competition Camp commenced in the afternoon.
"We improved our turnout from last year, and this group is a really excited, enthusiastic one," head coach Willis Wilson said. "We love seeing the local youths here, getting acclimated to our players and our program. But most of all, for me personally, it's a chance to teach the fundamentals of the game of basketball to a group that wants to soak in every drop of what we teach them."
This week's Day Camp runs Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon and is open to kids ages 7-17, while the Competition Camp takes place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and is for those in grades 5-8.
The second session of Day Camp will be held next week, Monday to Thursday, for a cost of $100. Campers learn the fundamentals of all aspects of their game, and as part of the registration receive a camp t-shirt and camp basketball. The second session of the Competition Camp costs $40, and runs in the afternoon from Monday through Thursday.
