CORPUS CHRISTI – Former Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men's basketball players Demond Watt and Justin Reynolds have signed professional contracts overseas. Reynolds has inked a deal to play in Macedonia, while Watt will be headed to Sweden to further his basketball career.
Watt signed a deal with Eco Orebro of the Swedish Basketball League – the Ligan. The team is based in Orebro, a town about two hours west of Stockholm, in the center of the country. The season starts in the second week of October.
The Chicago native twice earned Third Team All-Southland Conference recognition for his efforts at the Island University. As a senior, he finished fifth in the league with 15.0 points per game, while his 8.9 rebounds were second among Southland players. He finished his career with a school-record 851 rebounds in his career and his 1,272 points are fourth in Islanders lore.
Reynolds is headed to Torus Skopje of the Cup League and Balkan League, where the Pearland native signed a two-year deal. Playing at the Pro A level, Torus went 17-11 to finish fourth in the Superleague a year ago. The team, based in the city of Skopje, begins its season against Mornar Bar on Oct. 11.
Reynolds wrapped up his four years in an Islanders uniform with 1,242 points, the sixth-highest total in Islanders lore. His 71 games scoring in double figures are a school record, while his 777 rebounds are third among Islanders. He scored a career-high 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in his final home game, against UT Arlington on March 2.
The duo joins Kevin Palmer (NDBL Austin Toros), Chris Daniels (Japan), Michael Hicks (Italy), Josh Washington (Germany) and Will Bullard (Harlem Globetrotters), who all played professionally last season, in the ranks of Islanders currently in the pros.
