Islanders men's basketball to be featured on Southland TV twice this season

Texas A&M - Corpus Christi's men's basketball team will get some extra attention during the season, with two of the Islanders marquee games to be televised on the Southland Conference Television Network this year.

The first game to be televised will be on November 15 at the American Bank Center against Texas A&M. The historic game will mark the first time the Aggies have traveled to Corpus Christi for a game against the Islanders.

The game against the Aggies will be the first of the year for the Southland TV Network and it will also be the first time that the network has broadcast a game that features a team from outside the conference.

"We're grateful to have two appearances by our men's basketball team on the Southland TV Network during the 2010-11 season," said Director of Athletics Tim Fitzpatrick. "When we host Texas A&M at the American Bank Center on November 15, it will be a great opportunity to showcase our program on stations throughout Texas and Louisiana on a night when we battle a Top 25 type of opponent in front of a large home crowd."

The second contest will be after the New Year on Jan. 29 when A&M - Corpus Christi travels to Stephen F. Austin for an important Southland Conference game. It will feature teams that finished second (SFA) and third (Islanders) in last year's regular-season Southland standings, and promises to be a key game in the 2010-11 regular-season race.

With nine returning players and the addition of several newcomers, the Islanders should be in good shape to compete for the Southland Championship against the Lumberjacks, a perennial contender for the league crown.

"Historically, our games with Stephen F. Austin each year are competitive and challenging," said Fitzpatrick. "By the end of January when we play them at their place, the SLC regular season race will be starting to heat it up, and it promises to be a good game for the Network."

The full Southland TV schedule features 17 games in all, including five games from the 2011 State Farm Southland Conference Tournament in Katy, Texas. The two semifinal and final games for the women and the two semifinals for the men will be televised while ESPN2 will carry the men's championship.
