ISLANDER ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH TO BE HONORED AT SC STATE
Already inducted into the South Carolina State University Athletic Hall of Fame, current Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball associate head coach Cy Alexander will be honored the weekend of Sept. 10-11.
Alexander, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1998, won 277 games in 16 seasons with the Bulldogs and will be recognized with arguably his best team as part of the school's Hall of Fame celebration. In 1988-89, Alexander led the Bulldogs to a 25-8 mark, the school's first MEAC Tournament title, and program's the first trip to the NCAA Tournament at the Division I level.
"I am extremely grateful to the University for this opportunity and deeply honored it is recognizing outstanding young men that were on this team for their accomplishment," said Alexander. "I am proud to be a part of these fine men who have all gone on to be extremely successful after basketball."
Alexander was named the MEAC Coach of the Year three times and the American Sports Wire National Coach of the Year in 1996 in 16 seasons with the Bulldogs. They won five MEAC Tournament titles during his tenure. South Carolina State was named the American Sports Wire Black College National Champions three times.
