CORPUS CHRISTI – The Islanders will be hosting their 2nd annual Coastal Bend Cheer and Dance Challenge on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the Dugan Wellness Center. The competition is open to ages three through 20 years old. Last year 300 participants competed with 67 routines.
There will be four dance categories: team, officer, solo and duets & ensembles as well as four cheer categories: all girl, co-ed, individual, and partner/group stunt. As part of the solo/individual competition, high school seniors are encouraged to compete for up to a $300 scholarship to Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi as part of the Islanders Spirit Teams by performing an individual routine. Critique sheets will be issued. Solos will be judged on showmanship, originality, difficulty, technique, appearance, style, memory and flexibility.
Deadline for receiving entry, contest fees, and names of solos, ensembles, and officers is two weeks before the contest. Spectator tickets for the competition are available at the door of the competition site and tickets cover all day. Cost of entrance is $8 for adults and $5 for children. Two years and under will get in free. There will be a concession stand available for the teams and spectators.
The awards ceremony is set for 8:30 p.m.
