CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi Cheer Team had a successful four days at the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) camp July 13-16, including garnering three team ribbons at Texas State University.
"I have never had a team work as hard and give well over 110 percent as they did," Head Coach Melanie Lowry said. "They showed up ready to go and Coach Kate took the team to the next level. I think she was hard and tough on them and they responded well. The team increased their skill level from beginner to advanced elite in a matter of two to three days."
First year head tumbling and stunt coach Kate Calderone helped the team win a superior first-place Division I trophy for traditional fight song in the large co-ed division, along with superior ribbons in the band, sideline and cheer that they learned during the four days of camp.
Izzy the Islander also won two ribbons. The mascot garnered a superior first-place trophy for his overall performances through the weekend and two excellent red ribbons for his individual performances.
