Top Performance #1: Jacob Dorris Mows Down Oral Roberts

The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team was headed into game two of the series against Oral Roberts on April 26 following a 7-2 victory the previous day.

Trevor Belicek started on the mound to kick off the pitching battle against Oral Roberts' Gavin Glanz, both keeping the game scoreless until the top of the sixth, when ORU's Jose Trevino beat out a throw to home off of a single by Anthony Sequeira. The Islanders were quick to answer back though, with a two-run homer by Tyler Ware to snatch the lead 2-1.

In the seventh, Belicek got into a jam and headed into the dugout with bases loaded and no outs. It was then that reliever Jacob Dorris stepped up and took control. He calmly stepped in and made quick work of Trevino, sending him down on strikes. Cleanup hitter Tyler Boss followed, and he went down swinging as well. He finished off the inning by inducing a groundout off the bat of Audie Afenir to end the inning with no damage.

The offense followed with an RBI triple by Jordan Lee and an RBI by Tierney to plate Lee for the three-run lead in the bottom of the seventh.

Dorris allowed a leadoff walk in the eighth, but struck out the next two batters and again finished the frame with a ground out.  The icing on the cake came in the ninth, though, as Dorris sent all three batters he faced down on strikes, the final one Trevino, to end the contest.

The Weatherford, Texas native played a key role in the remainder of the season helping to lead the Islanders to a third-place finish in the Southland Conference and their fourth straight trip to the Southland Conference Tournament.
