Islanders in Summer Ball Update

CORPUS CHRISTI – Members of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team are currently playing around the country in NCAA-sanctioned summer baseball leagues, and the Islanders are off to a strong start all around the nation.

In the elite Northwoods League, a pair of rising seniors have enjoyed strong starts to their summers. Closer Jacob Dorris, who started the year in the Cape Cod League, has been lights out for the La Crosse Loggers. In four appearances, he has registered seven innings, surrendering five hits, one run and one walk, while striking out nine. Fellow Islander Jordan Lee has been red-hot with the bat for the Alexandria Blue Anchors, leading the team with a .364 average to go along with four home runs, 13 RBI and 16 runs scored.

Several Islanders are spending their summers playing in the Texas Collegiate League. For the Victoria Generals, Kyle Danford has played in 23 games, hitting .271 with eight doubles, 11 RBI and 14 runs scored. He has a familiar face in his dugout, as Kaleb Keith has made four starts on the mound, striking out 25 batters in 27 1/3 innings of work. A pair of other pitchers are plying their trade for The Woodlands Strykers. Nolan Holland has made six starts, posting a 1.21 ERA, while Devin Skapura has 36 strikeouts and a 3.24 ERA in his six starts on the mound.

In the Perfect Game Collegiate League in New York, several Islanders are playing for a trio of teams. Dalton D'Spain has been strong on the mound for the Watertown Rams, pitching two complete games among four starts and surrendering just 15 hits in 27 2/3 innings of work. Teammate Dominic Lopez has three doubles, a triple and a home run for the Rams as well. Kevin Landgrebe and A.J. Flores are pitching for the Albany Dutchmen, and each has tallied eight strikeouts – Flores in 7 2/3 and Landgrebe in 11 1/3. For the Utica Brewers, Zacharias Hardy has scored four runs, with a double and a triple, in 10 games.

Tyler Ware is currently playing in Alaska, where he has scored nine runs in 11 games of action. In Wyoming, Travis Geiser is hitting .304 for the Casper Cutthroats, driving in 11 and scoring 15 runs. Jared Jordan has appeared in 10 games for the Charles Town Cannons, striking out 10 batters to just two walks. Thomas Casey has pitched in five games for the Kitsap BlueJackets, notching 12 strikeouts.
