Tierney collects First Team All-Central Region Honors

CORPUS CHRISTI – Senior third baseman Brandon Tierney of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team has been named First Team All-Central Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association. Tierney was tabbed the top third baseman in the region, and will be a candidate for the ABCA All-American teams later this month.

"This is a great honor, both for Brandon and for our program," head coach Scott Malone said. "He provided our team with great leadership, both on and off the field. Brandon really played like a senior and carried the Islanders to another outstanding finish in the Southland."

Tierney was one of five Southland Conference representatives on the all-region first team, as he was joined by Andro Cutura (SP, Southeastern La.), Anthony Azar (C, Sam Houston State), Doug Votolato (OF, Central Arkansas) and Andrew Godbold (OF, Southeastern La.). He is the first Islander to earn first team all-region recognition since Daniel Minor did so in 2012.

The Arlington, Texas, native was a First Team All-Southland selection following the regular season, the only Islander to pick up first team honors this season. He hit .341 overall on the year, the ninth-best mark in the Southland. He posted 13 doubles, two triples and three home runs, driving in 32 runs while scoring 36 times. He was hit by a pitch a team-leading 15 times.

He posted a 13-game hit streak that ran from March 30-April 22, during which the Islanders went 9-4 overall. During that stretch, he hit .458, and also registered a remarkable five straight games with three hits. He earned Southland Hitter of the Week honors during that stretch, collecting the honor on April 20, after leading the Islanders to a sweep of Northwestern State.

In his two years as an Islander, he played in 98 games and totaled 109 hits and 51 RBI. He posted a strong .947 fielding percentage at third base, and made just six errors this season as one of the top infield defenders in the league.
