CORPUS CHRISTI – On the second day of action in the Fall World Series for Texas A&M – Corpus Christi's baseball team, the Blue Team clinched the series with a 5-4 win on Saturday.
Trevor Belicek picked up the win for the Blue Team in a six-inning performance. He gave up one run on four hits. He also struck out two batters, while walking two as well.
In a losing performance, Tyler Schnuriger gave up three runs on four hits over four innings.
It was a hot start for the Blue Team, as it knocked in two runs in the first inning. The team later added runs in the third and the fifth. With the score at 4-1, the Grey Team would pull within striking distance, scoring a run in the eighth to cut the lead to one.
The Blue Team would end up bringing around a very important run in the top half of the ninth to extend its lead back to three. It was key because in the bottom of the ninth, the Grey Team would plate two runs before sophomore Kaleb Keith would lock up the six-out save on a punchout with both the tying and game-winning runs on base.
Once again, Cody Stephens had a big day for the Blue Team. He was only set down once, going 4-for-5 with one double. He made effective use of his wheels, as he stole two bases and scored two runs.
Two newcomers, JUCO transfer Frankie Salas and freshman Travis Geiser, both recorded two-hit days at the dish for the Blue Team. One of which for Salas was an RBI double, while Gregory-Portland native Geiser made both of his count by coming around to score each time.
Leading the Grey Team's offense was Zach Gibson who recorded the first home run of the series, as he plated a two run shot and also picked up another hit on the day. Brandon Tierney and Jordan Lee also recorded two hits and one run. Tierney knocked in one of the Grey Team's four runs as well.
