Baseball Travels To Louisiana For Important Southland Series
The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Baseball team will take to the road this weekend for an important Southland Conference series against the Southeastern Louisiana Lions in Hammond, La. Both teams are tied for second place in the conference standings, and are just one game back from first place. The series will be at Pat Kenelly Field at Alumni Field, with start times of 6 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
The Islanders (23-17, 9-6 Southland) recently suffered their first series loss since the Southland Conference opener, and they will be looking to bounce back against another top team from the league in the form of Southeastern La. (26-16, 9-6 Southland) on the road.
Trevor Foss (5-5, 3.71 ERA) will get the start for the Islanders on Friday night, where he will face Andro Cutura (0-2, 7.45 ERA). On Saturday, Trevor Belicek (6-1, 2.62 ERA) will get the nod against Tate Scioneaux(5-0, 3.29 ERA), and Sunday will see Matt Danton (4-2, 4.12 ERA) get the start for the Islanders. The SELA starter is TBA for the finale.
Offensively, Eric Weiss is tops on the team with a .333 batting average, while Zach Taylor (.323), Jonathan Gonzales (.318), Cody Stephens (.312) and Brad Porras (.304) are all above the .300 threshold for the Islanders. Gonzales has a team-high 33 RBI, one ahead of Weiss' 32 on the year. Gonzales also leads the team with four home runs, while Weiss is also one behind with three in 2013.
The Lions Jameson Fisher and his .329 batting average leads the team, with Harry Slade (.314) and Ben Hernandez (.303) also above the .300 mark. Slade is first in RBI with 29, while the pair of Hernandez and Fisher are tied for second at 21 on the year.
The last time the two teams met, Daniel Minor pitched a shutout against Lions for a 4-0 Islanders win. SELA won the first two games of the series before Minor got the team back on track with the Sunday win.
