The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Baseball team will take to the road for the first of five games away from home this week. The team will take on the Texas Longhorns at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night in a game that will be aired on the Longhorn Network.
The Islanders (16-12) will travel to Austin on Tuesday for a midweek contest against Texas (16-11) at Disch-Falk Field. Following the game, the team will return home for a Wednesday night exhibition against the Corpus Christi Hooks, the Houston Astros AA minor league affiliate, for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch, and then travel to Thibodaux, La., for a three-game Southland Conference road series.
O'Shea Dumes (1-0, 1.80 ERA) will get the second start of his collegiate career against the Longhorns, with the first resulting in a no-decision against Houston Baptist last week. In that start, the freshman from Corpus Christi went 4.0 innings and gave up just one run.
He will face Chad Hollingsworth (3-1, 4.15 ERA) of the Longhorns in what will be the just the sixth start of his career.
Eric Weiss and his .340 batting average lead the Islanders offense, with the senior also driving in 22 runs for second place on the team. Jonathan Gonzales leads with 27 RBI, and is second in average at .333 on the season. Zach Taylor has a .307 batting average to round out the trio of Islanders above .300 on the year.
For Texas, Mark Payton has a team high .421 average and is tied with Erich Weiss for the team lead with 16 RBI. Weiss, who is the cousin of the Islanders' Weiss, is second on the team with a .358 average at the plate. The Longhorns also have three players above .300 on the year, with Weston Hall hitting .304 on the year.
