Trevor Foss Garners National, Southland Player of the Week Honors
CORPUS CHRISTI – Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Baseball senior Trevor Foss got his final season on The Island off to a great start this past weekend, and he was rewarded with both national and Southland Player of the Week honors. The native of Janesville, Wisc. was named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper on Monday, and he followed it up with the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week honor on Tuesday afternoon.
Foss tossed a complete-game shutout against Texas – Pan American on Saturday, giving up just three hits and no runs while striking out a career-high 15 Broncs batters. He walked just one batter as he was in complete control throughout the contest. He allowed two hits in the third and one in the eighth as he held UTPA hitless in 7-of-9 innings.
The righty set the tone early, striking out the side in the first inning and picking up multiple strikeouts in the first, fifth, sixth, eighth and ninth innings to complete the shutout. The most batters Foss faced in any inning were five, while facing the minimum in six separate frames.
The 15 strikeouts topped his previous best of 11, set last season against McNeese State on Senior Day, with Foss setting down the 11 in six innings before giving way to relief.
The Islanders Baseball team will be back in action on Wednesday night, taking on UTSA in a 6:30 p.m. game at Chapman Field. Foss' is schedule to pitch next against Oklahoma on Saturday in the 2013 Kleberg Bank College Classic at Whataburger Field. First pitch for the College Classic game is set for 6 p.m.
