Jordan Lee, Daniel Minor Sweep Southland Honors

FRISCO, Texas – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi baseball team swept the weekly Southland Conference honors on Monday, with Jordan Lee winning the Hitter of the Week honor for the first time this season, and Daniel Minor being named Pitcher of the Week for the fourth time, the league announced on Monday.

The Islanders went 2-1 against Lamar this past week behind the arm of Minor and the bat of Lee. It is the first time the team has swept the honors this season. Minor won the Pitcher of the Week award three times previously, with Adam Hoelscher also taking home the first one of the season. Jonathan Gonzales won Hitter of the Week two weeks ago, and Lee marks just the second time Texas A&M – Corpus Christi has gotten the offensive honor this season.

On Friday night, Minor set the tone with a complete game, striking out 10 batters while walking just one and giving up two runs. It was his fourth complete game of the season, as well as the fourth time he has had 10-or-more strikeouts in a contest. He improved to 9-2 and his ERA is now 1.94 after his first start at the top of the rotation in the second-to-last week of the season.

Lee did his part at the plate, hitting .538 in the three-game series, with hits and RBI on each day. He had two hits on Friday night, driving in one and scoring the eventual winning run. On Saturday, he moved to the leadoff spot, picking up one hit and two RBI as Texas A&M – Corpus Christi clinched the series. On Sunday he had a 4-for-5 day hitting while plating the only run of the game for the Islanders with an RBI single.

Minor, Lee and the Islanders will be in action this coming weekend as they travel to Arlington to face UT Arlington in the final Southland Conference weekend of the regular season. The team is looking to secure a spot in the Southland Conference Tournament while currently tied for seventh in the standings. The top eight teams advance to conference tourney.

The postseason tournament is scheduled to start next Wednesday in San Marcos at the Bobcat Baseball Ballpark.
