The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi baseball team will host the final home series of the season starting Friday, when McNeese State travels to Chapman Field for a three-game Southland Conference home series on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The Islanders are 19-24 overall, 10-14 in the Southland, and will host the Cowboys as they look to get back into contention for a spot in the upcoming Southland Conference Tournament. They are currently tied for ninth in the league, with the top eight earning a spot in the event. MSU is 18-25 on the season, with a 12-12 mark in league games.
The weekend will also mark the final home series of their Islanders career for 11 seniors, including Jeramie Marek, Phillip Garcia, Weston Montgomery, Bobby Buckner, Santiago Ruiz, Drew Vest, Omar Garcia, Michael Boyle, Marc Damon, Dan Sciantarelli and Alex Jack. The group will be honored before the game on Sunday in what will be their final game at Chapman Field.
Vest will lead an offensive attack that has come on as of late, as he is hitting .265, highest among the seniors. Jordan Lee is tops overall with a .293 average, while Jonathan Gonzales is right behind at .290 on the year. Gonzales also leads the team in home runs (8) and RBI (25), while Brad Porras hit his first two home runs of the season last weekend against Sam Houston State.
Adam Hoelscher will get the start for Texas A&M – Corpus Christi on Friday night, as he moves back into the Friday night role that he started the season in. Daniel Minor will get his first start this year in the middle game of a series when he goes on Saturday, while Trevor Foss will round out the weekend with the Sunday start.
For McNeese, Blake Ware will get the Friday start, and Tyler McDonald will start Saturday, while the third spot in the lineup is up for grabs after an injury to their Sunday starter last week.
Offensively, Seth Granger leads the team with a .331 batting average, and is tied for the team lead of three home runs. Michael Sullivan also has three homers, while driving in a team-high 21 runs on the season.
