Baseball Set For Four-Game Road Trip Starting Thursday

The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi baseball team will travel to on Thursday to start a four-game road trip with a single game against Houston – Victoria at 5 p.m. in Victoria. The Islanders then travel to Huntsville where they will take on the first place, and nationally ranked, Sam Houston State Bearkats in a three-game Southland Conference series this weekend.

The Islanders are 16-24 overall, and sit at 9-12 in Southland games. UHV is 17-28 overall as a member of the NAIA. The two teams played earlier in the season, with Texas A&M – Corpus Christi taking a come-from-behind win over the Jaguars to earn a 3-2 win.

For the Islanders, they will be looking to build on their last game, a 6-1 win over Stephen F. Austin in league play. Jordan Lee leads them in batting average with a .288 mark, while Drew Vest is second at .261 on the year.

Eric Weiss has a team-high 17 RBI this season, as well as a leading with eight doubles. Jonathan Gonzales has the team lead with five home runs, and is second at 14 RBI in 2012.

Matt Danton will get the start for the Islanders, but the game will be a staff designation in order to get several pitchers into the game.

Corti Wilson leads UHV with a batting average of .352, followed closely by Chad Kruse (.336) and Josh Ledesma (.322) on the year. Kruse has the team lead in RBI at 28, while Creighton Hoke is just one behind at 27 on the season.

After the single game, the Islanders travel to take on the Bearkats of Sam Houston State. The teams will play single games on Friday at 6:30 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and a 1 p.m. first pitch on Sunday at Don Sanders Stadium.
