Islanders Baseball Travels to UCA For First Southland Conference Series on the Road

The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi baseball team will face Central Arkansas for its first Southland Conference series on the road when they travel to Conway, Ark. for the three-game tilt. The teams will play a 6 p.m. on Friday, 4 p.m. on Saturday, and they have moved up the final game to 12 p.m. on Sunday to accommodate the visitor's travel plan.

The Islanders are currently 10-12 on the year, including a 3-3 mark in Southland Conference play. UCA is 8-9 overall, with an identical 3-3 mark in league play. The two teams went about it in different ways, with Texas A&M – Corpus Christi taking 2-of-3 from UTSA, before suffering a 1-2 weekend against Southeastern Louisiana. The Bears swept Lamar to open league play, and were in turn swept by McNeese during the second conference weekend.

The Islanders are led offensively by Eric Weiss with a .301 batting average. Weiss is the only regular player with an average above .300 on the team. Drew Vest is second on the team with a .286 average. Kyle Danford leads the team with 12 RBI, while Weiss is second at nine this season.

The strong point of the Islanders has been the pitching staff, with the team sporting a 3.74 ERA, including six pitchers with an ERA under 3.00 on the year. Of the pitchers, Sunday starter Daniel Minor leads the way with a 0.99 ERA and Southland-best 43 strikeouts. He is also second in innings pitched and third in opponent batting average. He is 4-1 on the year, as is Adam Hoelscher. The Friday night starter, Hoelscher has a 3.77 ERA in 31.0 innings pitched. Saturday starter Tim Keller has had some hard luck so far this season, as he is 0-3 on the year even though he has just a 2.83 ERA.

Forrestt Allday and his .439 batting average lead the Bears, while Bryan Wilson is the second-leading hitter at .348 on the year. Caleb McClanahan leads the starters with a 2.50 ERA, while Jeffery Enloe is at 3.42 and Ryan Angus rounds out the weekend rotation with a 4.82 ERA.
