CORPUS CHRISTI - The summer baseball season is coming to a close across the nation, and it was a successful one for several members of the Texas A&M - Corpus Christi baseball team.

A trio of Islanders were major contributors for the Hornell Dodgers this summer. Jeramie Marek, who was named a New York Collegiate Baseball League All-Star, finished the season at .318 with a team-high 22 stolen bases. In playing 44 games, mostly at shortstop, Marek also posted a .957 fielding percentage in helping the Dodgers go 22-22.

Omar Garcia also had a strong offensive summer for Hornell, hitting .313 with six doubles and a home run. On the mound, Bryce Zak was impressive as well, going 3-1 with a 3.33 ERA in 10 starts. The Angelo native punched out 54 batters to just 20 walks in 51 1/3 innings of work.

There are still a couple weeks left in the Northwoods League season, and Adam Hoelscher will look to continue to impress. A late addition to the Rochester Honkers, Hoelscher has punched out 15 batters in 15 2/3 innings with a 2.30 ERA. Elsewhere in the league, Michael Boyle has struck out 16 in 12 1/3 innings for the Waterloo Bucks, while Jumpy Garcia and Bobby Buckner had their seasons in the Northwoods cut short by injury.

Trevor Foss has had a solid summer for the Denver Cougars in the Rocky Mountain Baseball League. Foss struck out 41 batters to just 11 walks in 40 innings of work, and posted a 4-4 record. The Cougars went 23-11 and finished in third place in the RMBL.

Back in Texas, Weston Montgomery has helped the Blue Jays of the Dallas Amateur Baseball Association to a postseason berth. In the Karl Young League, Drew Vest and the Sand Crabs sit atop the standings with a 16-8 record. Alex Jack and Santiago Ruiz still have two weeks remaining on their summer with the Victoria Generals of the Texas Collegiate League.
