CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Department of Athletics unveiled the new Momentum Campus marquee, located at the corner of Nile and Ennis Joslin, on Monday, Dec. 17, at 10 a.m. Director of Athletics Scott Lazenby, members of the athletics department and university community and Ruben Herrera, a representative for the sign’s benefactor, Mr. Thomas J. Henry, were on hand at the event.
“This sign is another beautiful addition to the Momentum Campus,” Lazenby said. “Every piece we add to this area is another huge step for Islanders Athletics and our university, and this sign is a reminder of our progress that the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi staff, students and the Corpus Christi community will see every day on their way to work.
“I’d like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Thomas J. Henry for his continued support of our athletics program and in particular Coach Moore’s tennis teams. With his support, we have built one of the finest tennis facilities in the nation, and we know that this area will be the site of championship tennis for years to come.”
Henry, who was also the lead benefactor in the new Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center – home of the Islanders Tennis programs, indicated his pleasure at being able to contribute to the university.
"I am proud to be part of the university's ongoing development and look forward to helping it grow and expand in the future," Henry said.
The marquee hosts information about Islanders Athletics and the Island University to motorists traveling on both Ennis Joslin and Nile. The 5-by-12 LED sign provides a front door for the Momentum Campus as that area continues its expansion. The Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center was the first Islanders facility on the land, with the Dugan Family Soccer & Track Stadium, on track to be completed in the spring of 2013, set to be the second athletic facility at the complex.
