Islanders Place 30 on Southland Conference Commissioner’s Fall Honor Roll
FRISCO, Texas – The Texas A&M – Corpus
Christi Department of Athletics placed 30 student-athletes on the
2012 Southland Conference Commissioner’s Fall Honor Roll,
tying an all-time high for the program in school history. A
student-athlete must earn at least a 3.0 GPA during the preceding
fall semester to qualify for the honor. The honor roll includes
student-athletes who took part in men’s and women’s
cross country, football, women’s soccer and volleyball.
“We’re happy that our student-athletes put forth another strong semester in the classroom,” Director of Athletics Scott Lazenby said. “Our cross country and volleyball teams have traditionally been consistent performers away from the athletic arena, and we’re proud of their accomplishments.”
Leading the way for the Islanders are six athletes with a 4.0 GPA, including four members of the women’s cross country team. Kayla Fischer, Vanessa Galindo, Paola Perez and Alexandria Rossi earned 4.0 GPAs during the fall for the women’s cross country team, while Logen Bourque and Micah Nolan also had perfect GPAs during the previous semester.
The women’s cross country team led the way with a total of 11 athletes earning the honor, with men’s cross country following at 10 and volleyball rounding out the list with nine. In addition to Fischer, Galindo, Perez and Rossi, Breanna Briggs, Jasmine Boutte, Ashley Mills, Regina Salinas, Shelby Polasek, Teresa Tauriello and Samantha Hardin made it for the women’s cross country team.
On the men’s side, Philipp Barr, Valentinas Rudys, Justin Adame, Julian Pfeiffer, Adrian Marquez, Abel Koskey, Paul Hansel, Bryce Johnston, Brandon Lacy and Christoph Hintz scored above a 3.0 GPA in the fall of 2012.
The volleyball team also placed Morgan Brubaker, Ashley Phelps, Brianna Brink, Courtney Hall, Tyger Holt, Ivy Baresh and Sarah Sanchez on the list of honorees.
The department showed no signs of regression, matching the all-time high of 30 set just last year during the fall semester of 2011 to make Islanders history. The department as a whole continues to strive for excellence in all areas, both on and off the field.
The Southland Conference Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll acknowledges participants in all sports sponsored by the league and its member institutions. The honor roll is released within 30 days at the conclusion of the fall and spring semesters, recognizing student-athletes who maintained a minimum 3.00 GPA. Student-athletes, nominated by their respective academic advisors, must have been eligible to compete in a conference sport during the academic year in which the nomination occurs.
