Brooke Alverson Named Student-Athlete of the Week

CORPUS CHRISTI – Sophomore Brooke Alverson has been named the Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Pepsi. Alverson earned the award for her performance at the Holiday Inn Emerald Beach Islanders Classic on Friday and Saturday. 

The sophomore middle blocker made her second all-tournament team of the year as she put up 25 kills on a .345 hitting percentage in nine sets. She set a new career-high in the Friday night win against Towson with 14 kills, as the Islanders stopped the eight-match winning streak of the Tigers. In the tournament championship match, Alverson added 11 kills and just one error as she hit .357 for the match along with a block solo and three block assists against North Texas. 

This season, Alverson has recorded 76 kills, three solo blocks and 26 block assists in nine matches played.
