YOUNGSVILLE, La. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball team will fight for a conference title this weekend when the SLC Midseason Tournament gets underway Saturday and Sunday to crown a regular season champion in Youngsville.
The Islanders (8-8, 1-0 SLC) have been 40-1 against Southland opponents in regular season matches since 2019. They have won two of the three awarded regular season championships and will be going for their third in four years this weekend depending on results.
This weekend will determine seeding for the SLC Tournament, which the Islanders will host April 22-24. The tournament began in 2021 with the Islanders locking up the No. 1 spot four times out of the last five years. They have gone on to win the tournament and advance to the NCAA Tournament three of those times (2022-24).
The Islanders will play three matches Saturday and round out with a pair on Sunday. They enter the weekend already with the 1-0 SLC record this year following a dominant 5-0 sweep over HCU in a one-off conference matchup back on March 6.
Heading into the weekend, A&M-Corpus Christi already has a signature win over #20 Tulane and is bringing a three-match winning streak after defeating UAB, Southern Miss, and North Alabama last weekend. The momentum will help the Islanders also get closer to their fifth straight 20-win season.
