HOUSTON, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team will get back on the road after a winning homestand, heading to face HCU in a three-game conference series Friday and Saturday at Husky Field.
The Islanders are coming off a 3-1 home stretch, posting dominant offensive performances in the three wins including a 7-0 shutout over UTSA and a 4-0 blank in game one with East Texas A&M.
The Islanders finished the three-game conference against the Lions set with 19 hits across the weekend and strong pitching performances in the first two games, earning their first conference series victory under head coach Mark Montgomery.
Josie Whitehead earned two of those wins, tossing the complete game shutout over the Roadrunners before also going the distance in a 7-1 game two win over East Texas A&M to secure the series. Through 14.0 innings, she posted the perfect 0.00 ERA with the one unearned run.
Kenda Winfrey secured herself a complete game shutout as well in that game one conference series, striking out seven batters through the effort.
At the plate,
Skylar Heger has continued powering her way to the top of the team leaderboard with a .319 batting average and .472 slugging percentage. In conference play,
Kayla Santiago has emerged as a confidence booster with a .455 batting average.
Santiago recorded five hits in last weekend's conference series with three RBIs and a pair of runs herself.
The Islanders lead HCU 31-23 in the all-time series and has won the last two conference series matchups including the 2024 weekend in Houston.
