CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – After a quick trip back on the road, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team returns to Chapman Field for its next conference series over the weekend, playing host to Lamar for three games starting on Friday at 6 p.m.
The Islanders (10-10, 0-5 SLC) will be looking to get themselves on the positive side of the conference ledger for the first time this season, coming off a road series against Northwestern State last weekend in which they played tight but fell in all three games to the Demons. Cade Sanchez continued his career year at the plate, extending his current hitting streak up to a season-high eight games while keeping his batting average above .400 and his OPS above 1.000, both of which rank near the top of the Southland.
Standing in A&M-Corpus Christi's way this weekend are the Cardinals (12-9, 6-3 SLC), who most recently won two of three games in their most recent series against McNeese before then turning around and dropping their midweek against Sam Houston on Tuesday by a final of 7-4. Lamar is led by three-time Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week Chris Olivier in the rotation, with the righty winning the honor again during the most recent voting period after tossing 7.2 shutout innings with 12 strikeouts in his last start against the Cowboys on Saturday. The Islanders were swept by their in-state rivals during the 2025 regular season but got their revenge once the postseason rolled around, upsetting the third-seeded Cardinals in Edinburg and eliminating them from the Southland Conference Baseball Championship.
