FRISCO, Texas – Helping her squad win their first conference series of the season,
Malia Williams of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team earned SLC Pitcher of the Week announced by the league office Monday.
Williams set up the Islanders in a position to take the series against HCU after she went the distance in game two for the complete game shutout and win in the circle. Through seven innings, she only allowed one walk and four hits while striking out five as the Islanders went on to win 7-0 and force a rubber match.
She also made the start in game three, throwing 1.2 innings to only allow one run through her total 8.2 innings on the weekend. The Islanders went on to win 5-3 for the series win, their first of the year.
"We are extremely proud of Malia and all her hard work," said head coach
Kathleen Rodriguez. "She had a great weekend, and we look forward to seeing more of that from her moving forward!"
The award comes ahead of the Islanders playing their nonconference finale, a midweek contest at UTSA tomorrow at 4 p.m. The Islanders have won seven of the last 10 meetings with UTSA, including earlier this year in Corpus Christi in a 7-2 decision.
