Andy Glass Press Release

Track & Field Announces Hiring of Glass as Assistant Coach - Throws

Corpus Christi, Texas – The Texas A&M–Corpus Christi Track & Field team announced the addition of Andy Glass to its staff as the new Throws Coach.

Glass arrives on the Island with proven success after four seasons at Stephen F. Austin where he saw his athletes break school records in the Men's and Women's Javelin, Weight Throw, Men's and Women's hammer throw, women's indoor shot, and women's outdoor shot. He has had athletes in his program that won WAC Championships, qualified for the NCAA Championships and qualified for the US Championships placing as high as 5th. If that wasn't impressive enough, Glass also had a javelin thrower qualify for the US Olympic trials.

This spring, Glass had a second-place finisher in the men's weight throw at the WAC Conference Championships and a second and third place finish in the men's shot. Additionally, he had a champion in the women's weight throw, a silver in the women's shot put, and a silver in the men's javelin throw who qualified for the first round of the NCAA Championships.

Coach Glass on being hired, "I'm beyond excited to join the team and the university at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. I know Coach Jackson is going to build something special and I believe I can help him achieve it. The city and campus provide a great atmosphere for Track and Field student athletes to get a great education, live in a tremendous environment filled with opportunities, all while pursuing their passion for Track and Field."

Prior to Stephen F. Austin, Andy Glass coached at the University of South Carolina-Upstate where he oversaw the school record breaker in the weight throw along with a Conference title winner in the Hammer throw which subsequently broke the Haitian national record.

The first stop for Glass in coaching was at Briar Cliff University where in five seasons his athletes qualified for the National Championships 15 times, where able to break nine school records, and earned four All-American awards.

As an athlete, Glass found much success throwing in multiple events at Southeast Missouri State University. He claimed the conference title in the outdoor Shot Put along with finishing on the podium six times. Andy was also a part of two teams that won OVC Championships.

"I am beyond ecstatic to add Andy to the staff. From the start of this process, he has been a guy I knew would fit exactly what we are trying to do here on the Island with our Track and Field programs. I have been impressed with his eye for talent and how well athletes have developed under his tutelage. He comes from a program with a rich history of winning SLC titles and we look forward to him helping us build that standard here."

Bryan Jackson Head Coach of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi said of the hiring.
