Travis Whipple Named Deputy Director of Athletics

Whipple brings history of success to Island

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Travis Whipple will join the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Department of Athletics as the Deputy Director of Athletics beginning May 30, Director of Athletics Scott Lazenby announced on Wednesday.
 
 "I am very excited to add Travis Whipple to our team here at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi as our new Deputy Director of Athletics," said Director of Athletics Scott Lazenby. "Bringing Travis to the Island with his experience as a fundraiser at the Division I-AAA level and his experience as a former collegiate basketball student-athlete will be a major boost to our athletic programs, especially Men's & Women's Basketball."
 
Whipple will lead the Islanders' fundraising efforts while also guiding the department's external relations staff.
 
"I am thrilled to be joining the Islanders during an exciting time on campus and in the community," said Whipple. "Our family is extremely grateful to Scott Lazenby for this opportunity and we look forward to being part of the Corpus Christi community.
 
"There is an outstanding group of coaches and staff on campus," Whipple continued, "and I look forward to partnering with them to enhance the student-athlete, fan and donor experience."
 
Whipple joins the Islanders after serving as the Assistant Athletic Director for External Operations at Little Rock since 2015. During his time with the Trojans, Whipple increased external revenue for the department by $1 million. While leading the external team at Little Rock, Whipple led the department's major gifts campaigns and also guided marketing efforts that generated at 167-percent increase in home attendance. In addition to his fundraising and marketing efforts, Whipple oversaw the Trojans' box office and ticket sales operations, corporate partnerships and game management.

Prior to his time in Little Rock, Whipple served as the Director of Advancement and Athletics for Cotter Schools in Winona, Minn. While with Cotter, he raised $2 million for the schools' gymnasium campaign and brought in an additional $150,000 for new scoreboards and facility upgrades.
 
Whipple also spent time as the Associate Athletic Director at the University of Illinois Springfield. With the Prairie Stars, he served as the director of major gifts while also overseeing corporate partnerships and ticket sale operations.
 
Whipple earned his Bachelor of Science in Education from Winona State in 2008 before completing an M.S. in Educational Leadership and Sports Management at Winona State in 2010.
 
Following the completion of his education at Winona State, Whipple went on to serve as the Assistant Athletic Director for External Operations at his alma mater. He led corporate partnerships and luxury suite sales, game management, scheduling and ticket sales among other duties. 
 
Whipple will be joined in Corpus Christi by his wife, Kim, and children, Kai and Mia.
