SAN MARCOS, Texas – Two milestones were reached for the first time in Texas A&M-Corpus Christi track & field history on Friday at the Bobcat Classic, hosted by Texas State, as a pair of current record holders broke their own program marks.
Hannah McWilliams became the first Islander in history to eclipse the 4.00-meter bar in the women's pole vault. Not to be outdone,
Aaron Rosales earned the first spot in program history to cross the 50-meter threshold in the men's hammer.
For McWilliams, the redshirt junior easily topped the 3.75 and 3.85-meter bars to win the event, her third of the season. McWilliams missed her first attempt at four meters, but rebounded to make history with her second jump.
Rosales took first in his flight and placed eighth in the event with a mark of 50.38 meters. The Corpus Christi native previously set the school record at the Houston Invitational and the Michael Johnson Invitational in the last month.
Women's hammer record holder
Diamond Thomas put forth a mark of 47.28 meters on Friday, the fourth longest toss in the record books, as she placed fifth.
The Islanders tallied a pair of personal bests in the javelin.
Mariah Ellis placed eighth with a distance of 27.17 meters, while
Nick Vasquez earned a fourth-place finish with a mark of 45.20 meters in his second attempt on the day.
