FRISCO, Texas – Led by two broken records and 13 combined scoring performances, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi track & field program put together its strongest day of the 2017 indoor season during the first meet of the Dunamis Sports Group College Classic.
A delay at the beginning of the meet did little more than fuel the Islanders, as
Chloe Young and
Aaron Rosales broke their own records set earlier this year.
For the third time in the last four races, Young broke the program record in the 60-meter hurdles with a third-place finish in the finals at 8.86 seconds.
Rosales smashed his school record in the weight throw with a 14.23-meter heave, nearly a half of a meter further than the previous mark set at the Texas A&M Invitational.
Sashane Hanson and
Zhafear Ray put the Islanders on the podium in the high jump for the men and women with matching second-place finishes. For Hanson, Friday was her third consecutive podium, while Ray reached it for the first time in his career by clearing the 2.05-meter bar.
Adrienne Nickleson used a career-long 13.95-meter toss in the shot put to finish in sixth.
Steven Galli picked up six points for the Blue and Green with a third-place finish in the mile run, capping the race in 4:19.09.
In the relays, the women's distance medley team of
Taylor Hawes,
Olivia Williamson,
Elisa Patzig and
Morgan McCutchen earned third-place honors. The women's 4x400-meter relay team that featured Young,
Faith Williams,
Kendall Rodriguez and
Desiree Corbett added a fourth-place finish.
In addition to his strong individual outing in the mile, Galli starred in the men's DMR with
Darrin Jackson,
Dominic Baptiste and
Vinnie Van Puyvelde that finished in second.
