Record Falls in Opening Day of Houston Invitational

HOUSTON – On the opening day of the Houston Invitational, another Texas A&M-Corpus Christi indoor record fell as the Islanders produced a strong start to the two-day meet.

Chloe Young highlighted the opening day of the Houston Invitational, setting a program record in the qualifying heats of the 60-meter hurdles. Young moved on to the semifinals by posting a time of 8.97 in the first qualifying heat. She beat her own mark of 9.01, set at last season's Southland Conference Championships, to set a new bar for the program.

In the 60-meter dash, Ebony Collins qualified for Saturday's semifinals by running a 7.63 and winning her heat. The 7.63 mark tied Collins' time at the 2014 Southland Indoor Championships for the fourth fastest in program history. Sierra Pruitt will join Collins in the semis after posting a 7.86 in her heat.

Hannah McWilliams just missed a career-best and her own school record by clearing 3.70 meters in the pole vault. Her previous best was 3.72 meters set at the season-opening meet at Texas A&M. McWilliams finished fifth in the competition

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
>> Brandon Walls matched his personal record and tied the fourth-fastest time in Islanders' history with a 7.02 60-meter dash.
>> Faith Williams finished fifth in the "B" final of the 200-meter dash at 26.24.
