HOUSTON – On the opening day of the Houston Invitational, another Texas A&M-Corpus Christi indoor record fell as the Islanders produced a strong start to the two-day meet.

Chloe Young highlighted the opening day of the Houston Invitational, setting a program record in the qualifying heats of the 60-meter hurdles. Young moved on to the semifinals by posting a time of 8.97 in the first qualifying heat. She beat her own mark of 9.01, set at last season's Southland Conference Championships, to set a new bar for the program.

In the 60-meter dash,
Ebony Collins qualified for Saturday's semifinals by running a 7.63 and winning her heat. The 7.63 mark tied Collins' time at the 2014 Southland Indoor Championships for the fourth fastest in program history.
Sierra Pruitt will join Collins in the semis after posting a 7.86 in her heat.

Hannah McWilliams just missed a career-best and her own school record by clearing 3.70 meters in the pole vault. Her previous best was 3.72 meters set at the season-opening meet at Texas A&M. McWilliams finished fifth in the competition

Brandon Walls matched his personal record and tied the fourth-fastest time in Islanders' history with a 7.02 60-meter dash.

Faith Williams finished fifth in the "B" final of the 200-meter dash at 26.24.

Ben Clark set a personal best and the second-best mark in school history with a 13.26 meter effort in the weight throw.

Diamond Thomas produced a distance of 13.14 in the weight throw, the sixth best mark in program history.

Darrin Jackson went 6.50 meters in his first attempt at long jump for a personal best and the eighth-best mark in program history.

Mariah Ellis set a new personal-best in the pentathlon, finishing with 2804 points. That ranks as the seventh-best mark in Islanders' history.
SATURDAY SETUP
The Islanders cap the Houston Invitational on Saturday. Field events begin with men's and women's shot put at 9 a.m. while running events are slated to begin at noon.
