CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- The 2016 Islander Open presented by Kevin W. Liles, PC -- Trial Lawyer begins at 9 a.m. Friday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center and H-E-B Tennis Center.

The three-day tournament will be played at both locations on Friday and Saturday with the finals scheduled for Sunday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center located at 400 Nile Drive.

An officially sanction Intercollegiate Tennis Association event, the Islander Open boasts representatives from Texas, Rice, Lamar, Northwestern State, UTSA, Sam Houston State, UTRGV, Incarnate Word and your hometown Islanders.

"We are extremely excited about the 8th annual Islander Open," said Director of Tennis Steve Moore. "We are incredibly grateful to Kevin Liles for his generosity in being our title sponsor of this officially sanctioned Intercollegiate Tennis Association event. One of our big goals for this program was to bring an ITA event to Corpus Christi and we are very proud to be awarded this event by the ITA. We feel this event is a huge asset for our team, our university and our community, having eight high-level NCAA Division I teams come to Corpus Christi to compete."

Women's singles will kick off the festivities with a 9 a.m. first round on Friday. The men will follow with their first round of singles play set for 11 a.m. Both the men and women will play second rounds in the afternoon before doubles action concludes the day at 5 and 6 p.m.

"We are also very grateful to the Corpus Christi community for the way they have always supported this event and reached out to house players," said Moore. "I want to especially thank Gerry Maingot and Gerald Tjon-A-Joe for all their expertise and assistance with this tournament. In addition, we would like to extend our gratitude to Jason and Hester Rodriguez of Hester's Café for providing meals this weekend."
