Fourth Annual Casino Night a Success for IAF

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –  The Fourth Annual Islander Athletic Fund Casino Night was another exciting evening of food, friends and fun this past Saturday at the University Center Anchor Ballroom on the campus of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

The 300 Islanders Athletics supporters in attendance were treated to a dinner buffet, a multitude of casino gaming tables and plenty of items up for bid at the silent and bid board auctions.  Mike Gillaspia and Rachel Cole from KRIS-6 News Sunrise served as the emcees of the event once again.

"It was another great event this year," Director of Athletics Scott Lazenby said. "Everyone I spoke with at Casino Night said they had an amazing time. From the gaming to the auction to just socializing with our coaches, everyone in attendance seemed to enjoy themselves.

"I want to thank [Associate AD] Jimmy Frush and all of our staff for the tireless effort they put in to making this another successful Casino Night," Lazenby added.

Raising nearly $40,000 in ticket and auction item sales, the 2016 IAF Casino Night allowed supporters to participate in various Vegas-style games, including blackjack, poker, slot machines, craps and roulette, in an effort to accumulate the most chips by the end of the night.

The big winner of the night was Paul Wilson, who earned 138,625 chips and will get his name etched into the side of the IAF Casino Trophy.  Mike Keesee finished in second place with 92,500 chips, Tracie Rodriguez had 47,000 and Joe Frush rounded out the top four with a total of 29,200 chips.

All proceeds from the event went to the Islander Athletic Fund, which directly supports student-athlete scholarships at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

The IAF gives a special thank you to Mike Gillaspia and Rachel Cole of KRIS-6, La De Da Event Production, Blue Moon Entertainment, Just Like Vegas and Chartwells for helping make Saturday such a successful evening.
