With a grand opening on Aug. 23, 2013, the Dr. Jack A. Dugan Family Soccer and Track Stadium, located on Nile Drive just west of Oso Bay, became the another jewel in Islanders Athletics' Momentum Campus facilities.
The approximately $8.8 million facility is home to the Islanders track team and the newly-established Islanders women's soccer program. The 15,300-square foot facility, which features a soccer field enclosed by an eight-lane track, will host Southland Conference competitions as well as non-conference games and tournaments featuring nationally-prominent programs from across the country. There is also seating for up to 1,000 spectators, concessions, a press box, private suites, locker rooms, training rooms, storage, a ticket office, coaching offices, and a paved parking lot.
Director of Track and Field Shawn Flanagan on the facility:
“When I got here in 2000 we started talking about putting a track on campus and there were a lot of permutations but at no time did I expect it to be as lovely as this is going to be. This stadium, when it’s completed, is going to give our program a huge boost and give us a facility to practice on. From a recruiting aspect this is going to be one of the best, if not the best, stadiums in the Southland Conference.”
