Richard Burnett was hired as the Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning for Islanders Athletics in September 2012 and was elevated to Head Strength and Conditioning Coach in October 2014. Before taking a position on a full-time basis, Burnett worked as graduate assistant in the department while working towards his Master of Science degree in kinesiology.

Burnett is an NSCA-Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, as well as being certified in CPR and first aid. He also has his SCCC credential through the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa) and is FMS Level 1 certified. He earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Texas A&M – Corpus Christi in May of 2011, and completed his master's degree in December 2012.

An active contributor to the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Burnett currently serves as an Advisory Board member of the NSCA Texas State Division and has presented at several NSCA state and national conferences.

He previously worked as an Athletics Performance Coach at Pinnacle Performance and Fitness. Burnett also graduated from the United States Marine Corps Officer Candidate School in 2009 and continued his training before a voluntary disenrollment from the Platoon Leaders Course program in April of 2010.

Burnett also serves as the Huddle Leader for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s branch of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He resides in Corpus Christi with his wife, Amanda.
