Richard Burnett was hired as the Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning for Islanders Athletics in September 2012. Before taking the position on a full-time basis, Burnett worked as graduate assistant in the department while working towards his Master of Science degree in kinesiology.
Burnett is an NSCA-Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, as well as being certified in CPR and first aid. He also has his SCCC credential through the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa). He earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Texas A&M – Corpus Christi in May of 2011, and completed his master's degree in December 2012
He previously worked as a personal trainer at the Corpus Christi Athletic Club, Pinnacle Performance and Fitness and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi. Burnett also graduated from the United States Marine Corps Officer Candidate School in 2009 and continued his training before a voluntary disenrollment from the Platoon Leaders Course program in April of 2010.
Richard currently resides in Corpus Christi with his wife, Amanda.
